The Cairngorms & Speyside

Dunmhor Guest House is perfectly located for guests to enjoy the splendour of the Cairngorm National Park and the diverse landscape of Speyside, home of the World famous Malt Whisky Trail.

The Cairngorm National Park is a world renowned area where both residents and visitors can enjoy an unparalleled range of outdoor recreation opportunities. People are free to explore the mountains and glens, the forests and moorlands and the rivers and lochs of the Park. They can do so on foot, in a wheelchair, on horse-back, on a bicycle or even in a boat or canoe, as long as they do so in a responsible manner, with respect for other people and for the environment, and in accordance with the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.

It is difficult and nigh impossible to find words to describe this very special place. The rich, almost African colours of the landscape in the early morning when the sun is rising behind the Cairngorms, the vibrant colours of the lower slopes shading into warm heather tints of the ‘tops’ with the odd patch of snow still in a sheltered spot.

Speyside, starting in the historic town of Grantown-on-Spey, built in the eighteenth century by Sir James Grant. Here you can wander in the gardens and potter along the attractive Georgian main street for souvenirs in a splendid array of specialist shops – whisky and fishing tackle are just some of the treasures on offer.

As you follow the Speyside trail through scenic landscape and pretty villages you conclude your journey at the spectacular expanse of the Moray Firth with its stunning beaches, pristine coastal waters, fascinating fishing villages and outstanding marine wildlife.

The mix of the Cairngorms and Speyside truly offers something for everyone, countless activities, attractions, leisure options, dining opportunities and the breathtaking setting will make your time in this majical part of the World simply unforgettable.
